The truth about tweeting

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

I love social media. A lot. Especially Twitter.

At the beginning of our Twitter career, I doubted that we could realistically make legitimate business connections through 140-word status updates. The concept seemed foreign and too simple. As our number of followers slowly began to rise, I realized the pure awesomeness that is Twitter. Here is why I love Twitter:

  1. Our 350 person (and growing) following consists of the most positive people looking to better the world through their own environmental missions, whether it be fashion, gardening, writing or even cooking.
  2. Giveaways, discounts, sales and more! The people of Twitter seem to LOVE offering special promotions to their followers through which I have discovered some amazing new companies and received some seriously rockin’ deals.
  3. Local camaraderie. I absolutely love the bonds that are formed between local small businesses through Twitter. Boulder people and Boulder companies are so quick to offer support and praise, and are constantly working to help keep our local spirit alive.
  4. Twitter is a major door opener. English Retreads has been featured in some amazing blogs and magazines, such as Fashion Grail, that otherwise we would have never connected with.
  5. People love to spread the word via Twitter. My favorite tweeters are those who pass along truly interesting articles, companies, websites and people. English Retreads has made some great contacts because our wonderful followers have “retweeted” posts that they found extra-cool. Thank you, followers!

There are so many more reasons why “tweeting” is going to change the face of networking that I can’t wait to discover. Oh and by the way, if you haven’t become a follower of English Retreads, now is the time!
