Eight years calls for a time to celebrate!

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

June is an exciting month for us as it marks English Retreads’ 8th Birthday (and my first month as the new intern)! That is eight solid years of creating eco-fashion handbags and accessories. For those of you who may not know the whole story of English Retreads, I will start from the beginning.

Like many other Boulderites, Heather English spent one warm summer afternoon tubing down Boulder Creek. While many of us would use this time to relax and escape, Heather’s mind was busy at work on a new business idea. The inner tube, yet simple, could be turned into something so fabulous. While in search of a new handbag that was durable and not made from leather, the idea came to her to create her own. And what better material to use than the same inner tube that she was floating down Boulder Creek on?

After a stop at the local hardware store, Heather created her very own bag. Soon her friends began asking about it and when the requests started rolling in, she knew she was in business. Voila! English Retreads was born.

Being the new intern for English Retreads, I have been busy learning more about this company each day. It is amazing to think how a simple object can be transformed into an eco-friendly yet fashionable item. Just think of how far just one bag has traveled in its lifetime. So just keep addin’ on the miles and experiences to both your life and the life of your English Retreads bag!

Happy 8th Birthday to English Retreads! To continue the celebrations, take advantage of 20% off your next purchase. Enter the code “eris8” when checking out. But hurry, the discount only lasts until June 30, 2009!

iPhone accessories take a greener approach

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

I love my iPhone. I really do. When I got my iPhone almost a year ago, I opted not to use a case because I appreciated how thin and sleek it is on its own. Well unfortunately, as of last week I had dropped it one too many times.

The back corner was cracked and the plastic was chipping away enough so you could see its insides. My volume control was shot and it turned on and off as it pleased. Last week’s damage meant a trip to the Boulder Mac Repair to fix it up and this week I am committing to buy a hard case to prevent future damage.

Now to be honest, the idea of an eco-friendly case had never occurred to me until a friend of mine gave me the scoop on a new case made from recycled plastic. That’s right, California-based company Agent 18 creates eco-friendly iPhone cases! The EcoShield iPhone cover has at least one recycled plastic bottle in each case. And it gets better. You can pre-order yours now and get 50% off! There’s some limited addition styles too, although not from recycled plastic but worth checking out. Make sure to get yours soon because the pre-order offer ends on June 21, 2009.

iPhone with EcoShield? Check. Model T Tote Luxe to carry it in? Check. The most eco-fabulous summer yet? Check!
