Autumn and winter tones for your closet

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

The brisk winter air has officially set in. While I may become impatient in regards to the cold, one thing I will not tire of are the winter colors that are settling into the closets of any savvy fashionista. Pantone has outlined the major colors for the fall/winter season, including:

  • American Beauty — a true red. Not over the top or too distracting, this red will pair up with just about any other color.
  • Purple Heart — a medium feminine purple. Transitioning from the dark violet, we move to a soothing purple. This one is my favorite!
  • Honey Yellow — a warm peachy yellow. I love this paired with American Beauty.
  • Iron — a cool gray. The “black” of this season, it pulls together an outfit for the perfect final touch.
  • Burnt Sienna — a pinky orange. This one easily falls into the category of a typical autumn color.
  • Nomad — a warm grayish brown. Works fabulously by itself or when paired with any other shade.
  • Rapture Rose — a pale pink. Just as blush brightens up a face, this shade will brighten up your outfit on a chilly day.
  • Warm Olive — a yellow-green. The brightest of all the colors. Who said yellow has to just be a summer color?
  • Majolica Blue — a bright navy blue. Another one that I will be looking forward to this season. It adds a new exotic feel when touched with burnt sienna or warm olive.
  • Crème Brûlée — a classic neutral. Capable of being dressed up or down, and paired with any outfit.
  • With winter upon us, its time to change up our clothing and try out something new!

The University of Colorado gets its own report card

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

The term “report card” reminds me of my elementary school days, when a simple piece of paper meant everything to me. That simple justification on how I was doing in school was worth it.  I would bring it home to my parents beaming with pride as they hung it on the fridge. Now in the college world, report cards are nonexistent. It’s a simple grade given at the end of a semester of grueling work.

When I came across this university report card, I felt that beam of pride return to me. Now it’s not all about me, I was not only proud of myself for taking part in the environmental crisis that we are in, but proud of my university and how we have all done a small part.

The University of Colorado was given an overall A-

Here were the specific categories of grading:

Administration: A

Climate Change and Energy: A (which I couldn’t agree more with; every day I walk across campus there are groups outside the UMC informing students about real issues)

Recycling and Food: A

Green Building: A

Student Involvement: A

Transportation: A (once again completely agreeing, the bus system here is AWESOME!)

Endowment Transparency: A

Investment Priorities: A

Shareholder Engagement: F (I guess they couldn’t give us all straight A’s…)

Yes, it does indeed feel good to be a BUFF. For more information check out the website here.

The newest vintage: Clothespin dresses

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

When eco-fashion comes to mind, many think of old reusable items that have outlived their days as articles of clothing. And yes that may be true for some, but when Gale Parker hits the spotlight with fabulous eco-friendly dresses, that thought was quickly erased.

Introducing Clothespin. Each dress is made one-of-a-kind with a choice of six styles. Gale works with each individual though the process of color, fabric, form, style and accents. The dresses are made of vintage rayon fabric with accents of lace, french beads and buttons.

With the feminine and flirtatious vibes that these dresses give, you will feel even better knowing that they are eco-friendly.

5 reasons to love Boulder Fall weather

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

While I do love, and I mean LOVE, the summertime in Boulder, the recent weather has been quite a refreshing change to the typical heat. Here’s why I’m totally enjoying the chilly breeze drifting through Boulder:

  1. It’s time to pull out the winter clothing. For me this means dragging out the boxes that have been nestled under my bed all summer long. My favorite item that I get to pull out has to be my pea coat. Simple yet chic. The day I busted that sucker out was definitely a good one.
  2. Holiday season is right around the corner. Get ready for the family to come into town. This has got to be one of the best times of the year.
  3. With snow on everyone’s mind, the cold weather just creates a better excuse to drink coffee and hot chocolate. With whipped cream of course! We can all splurge a little, and what’s better than that?
  4. The changing seasons are another great excuse to stay in and have a movie night. There’s no reason to go out into the cold when fun can be had indoors. Snuggle up with your loved one and take the night off.
  5. Ski/snowboard season. Enough said. Here we go!

I would love to hear any suggestions for favorite fall/winter activities!
