English Retreads love: a farewell from Blog Maven Sammy

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

For the past six months I have worked for English Retreads as their Marketing and Communications Intern, and I have LOVED it. Here are the reasons why this company is one of my favorites, and always will be.

1. The Products. What woman could not instantly fall in love with such gorgeous handbags? With such a selection of styles and colors, it’s impossible not to. I know that ever since I received my Large Beetle in Scarlet, I barely let the thing go, I bring it with me everywhere, and I mean everywhere.

2. The Passion. Heather English, the designer and CEO of English Retreads, pours her heart and soul into this company. All of the women who work here have the creative passion to inspire and spread their fashion ideas and environmental mission to all.

3. The Reality. The company is true to their word. Everyone is dedicated to the vision that English Retreads has created. From taking the bus and riding our bikes to work, creating eco-friendly handbags and buying from local farmer’s markets, the women here are truly dedicated to making an impact on the environment.

English Retreads is by far the best company that I have worked for. I am sad to be going, but know that they will continue to create fabulous handbags and inspire others to make an impact on our environment, while creating a fashionable movement along the way.

Hopenhagan?

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

As December begins, the buzz around Copenhagen seems to increase. There is talk of what can be achieved and the fears of who may not show. Students across the University of Colorado, Boulder campus have been seen wearing pins stating “Hopenhagen,” to demonstrate their wish for progress and change.

Back in March, the UN climate chief Yvo de Boer laid out the key goals for Copenhagen:

1. How much are the industrialized countries willing to reduce their emissions of greenhouse gases?
2. How much are major developing countries such as China and India willing to do to limit the growth of their emissions?
3. How is the help needed by developing countries to engage in reducing their emissions and adapting to the impacts of climate change going to be financed?
4. How is that money going to be managed?

From December 7th through December 18th the United Nations Climate Change Conference will be taking place in Copenhagan, Denmark. I am hopeful that some issues will be resolved and we can all take one step forward to fixing the issue of climate change. As of today, 98 of the 192 members of the United nations have confirmed their attendance, including the recent additions of US President Barack Obama and Chinese Premier Wen Jibao. Yet another push for change.
